ARTS 107, Color and Composition



Contrast of Saturation, DAWN HUNTER, PROJECT AUTHOR. PROJECT CONCEPT IS BASED ON THE TEACHINGS OF JOHANNES ITTEN AND developed base on ROY DRASITES' Syllabus.



Contrast of Saturation, Final Project



Students create a final composition in which the primary focus is diluting one color using white, black, gray, and its complement. Above project diluted yellow. Acrylic on paper, 6" x 6."

Students create a final composition in which the primary focus is diluting one color using white, black, gray, and its complement. Above project diluted yellow-green. Acrylic on paper, 5" x 8."

In addition to creating a final composition, students prepare themselves by creating digital and physical preliminaries so that they can see their selected color diluted in even gradation scales.

To develop agility with digital technology, we incorporate handheld device digital platforms. We utilize this technology as a digital sketchbook. Before painting their highly crafted preliminary scales and final paintings, students understand concepts and color schematics on a digital platform. Like any sketchbook, the expectation is that their digital sketches remain raw and not polished.
