Explore

Congaree National Park offers an unforgettable experience for hikers, kayakers, and nature enthusiasts. Spanning over 20,000 acres of federally protected wilderness, the park is home to awe-inspiring landscapes, including some of the tallest hardwood trees and pines in North America. Its lush floodplain forest features one of the highest tree canopies in the world. A popular starting point for visitors is the 2.6-mile boardwalk loop, which provides a scenic and accessible way to explore the park’s unique ecosystem. For those seeking adventure, trails and waterways invite exploration by foot, canoe, or kayak. Please note: cell phone coverage in the park is limited to nonexistent. For your safety, make thorough preparations before entering. Let someone know your plans, and leave a copy of your itinerary in case of emergencies. Be sure to wear suitable clothing and footwear, and bring essentials such as water, snacks, a first aid kit, a map, and a compass.

Columbia Art Center is a much-needed community resource operated by the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation. This facility offers Open Studio sessions as well as multiple classes consecutively. As part of this facility, there is a full retail gallery which allows studio members, instructors and others associated with the Columbia Art Center to sell their work.

This location provides multiple programs, including Open Studio and classes for both adults and children. In addition to pottery, you can learn about other arts here, such as basket weaving, jewelry making, book binding, painting, drawing, sewing and more. They are always interested in what the community wants to learn, and they seek feedback to learn if there is a demand for something that is not currently offered. They also offer unique events, like mosaic workshops.
